This book has so much to love:
โœ”๏ธ Small town charm
โœ”๏ธ A broody grump clashing with a dazzling sunshine
โœ”๏ธ Super strong heroine
โœ”๏ธ โ€œHate everyone but herโ€ reclusive hero
โœ”๏ธ Opposites attract
โœ”๏ธ Total standalone

BLURB โ†“
โ€œItโ€™s an interesting tale about how the princess rejects her riches and flies free from the castle.โ€
My story isnโ€™t quite so glamorous.
Well, not the part worth telling.

After my parents tried marrying me off to the wealthiest investor, I ditched their sheltered nest and set off with my own agenda.
This summer is my chance to begin again.
Fulfill the dreams that were previously ignored.
The adventure starts at a secluded cabin in the middle of nowhere.

Thatโ€™s where I find him avoiding civilization.

Nash Hudson is a broody recluse holding a major grudge.
With stormy eyes and a perpetual scowl to match, his dark mood tries to steal my sunshine.
I take his hostility personally, only to discover he doesnโ€™t like anyone.

Little does he realize that my stubborn streak rivals his.

As it turns out, Nash is the tortured hero my love story is missing.
Too bad heโ€™s very reluctant to fill that role.
Thanks to a little luckโ€”or a strike of lightningโ€”heโ€™s forced to face me.

Iโ€™ll break down his walls as if this soul searching depends on it.
Or maybe Iโ€™ll end up getting lost in him instead.

Simmering fury rolls off him in waves as he stands too still. With a snap of his fingers, he beckons Rune to heel at his side. The dog glances between us, somber and hesitant. Conflict whimpers from him.

โ€œDoes Rune belong to you?โ€ It deserves repeating based on his reluctance.

The manโ€™s blue eyes flash to mine for a mere beat before skittering away.

His behavior suggests submission, but Iโ€™m no fool. He bleeds pure dominance. His lack of eye contact is most likely a snub, or he isnโ€™t comfortable giving it.

A delayed and startling realization slams into me. Maybe he canโ€™t talk and Iโ€™m offending him with this insistent questioning. Iโ€™m struck with a fiery blow of alarm straight to my chest.

As if to soothe my guiltโ€”or stoke my irritationโ€”the man disproves that unspoken theory.

โ€œRune,โ€ he states with authority. โ€œCome.โ€

The command in his growly timbre makes my knees quake. I fumble to remain upright, fanning the embers erupting across my skin. The fluttering somersaults in my belly arenโ€™t appreciated. I shouldnโ€™t be having such a strong reaction to him. Heโ€™s just a man, an extremely surly one at that.

โ€œCome.โ€ He snaps those powerful fingers again, demanding that his command is promptly followed.

Rune lifts from his haunches and glances at me, an apology drooping his stance. His mismatched eyes are rimmed with indecision.

โ€œGo on,โ€ I urge with a shooing motion. โ€œWeโ€™re in enough trouble already.โ€

The silent brute emits a gruff noise, as if Iโ€™m turning his best friend against him. It shouldnโ€™t be that easy. The scolded pooch whimpers again, nearly cracking my heart in two.

I return to my crouched position and offer the pup a farewell pat. โ€œFeel free to visit whenever, Runey-boy. The cabin gets lonely.โ€

The comment is a last-ditch effort to get a rise from the broody stranger who refuses to speak. Sure enough, all Iโ€™m met with is chilled silence. Shocking.

This doesnโ€™t have to be the end for us.โ€
Except it was.

What did we know about happily ever after at the age of eighteen?

Mason Braxter was a football legendโ€”destined for glory far bigger than the confines of our small town.
Meanwhile, I had dreams of my ownโ€”a simpler life that included staying put and growing roots.

And all those plans of mine were going splendidly.

Until one drunken mishap a month before college graduation left me staring at two pink lines.
Then I was sharing custody with the most unlikely baby daddy.
Weโ€™ve figured out a system. Kind of.
Iโ€™m rocking this single mom gig. Mostly.

If only I could get a boost in the romance department.

As if summoned by my dry spell, Mason Braxter makes a sudden reappearance in Meadow Creek.
Six years have gone by, yet I can still remember every stupidly sculpted muscle on his body.
How easy it would be to fall back into old habits.
But Iโ€™m not that foolish girl anymore.

That doesnโ€™t deter my all-star ex from trying to prove we can do it right this time.
For all his efforts, I might let him scratch my itch once. Maybe twice.
Definitely not thrice.

EXCERPT REVEAL!

โ€œAre you dating anyone?โ€

โ€œI wish,โ€ Presley mutters.

โ€œOh?โ€ I lean in, erasing most of the distance forcing us apart.

โ€œItโ€™s an inside joke. Never mind.โ€

โ€œSo, thereโ€™s no special guy in your life?โ€ I need her to confirm it.

She shifts forward with an exhale, close enough to touch. โ€œOther than Archie? Nope.โ€

That mends a wound I didnโ€™t notice was still festering. The persistent throb in my temples ebbs. โ€œIโ€™m tired of pretending, Pep.โ€

โ€œThen stop,โ€ she whispers.

On pure instinct, I curl a palm around her nape and pull until she collides flush along my chest. Our mouths meet automatically. We melt into the intimate embrace, achingly familiar even after years apart. Our bodies remember what we were willing to ignore. Never again. Iโ€™m instantly transported to the days when this was as natural as breathing. Itโ€™s everything Iโ€™ve been missing, yet not nearly enough.

Her tongue slips out to tease my bottom lip. I part my mouth on a groan. Teeth gnash while the heat builds. Hands wander with tempting touches, stoking the flames. She scoots to the edge of her seat, nearly straddling me. With each passing second that we spend tangled together, the unknown between us disappears.

My fingers spear into her hair and guide our movements. Presley is mine again, at least for a moment. Thatโ€™s a heady sensation and I haul her tighter against me. Feverish lust floods me when she nudges my cock with her pelvis. Iโ€™m hard and reeling, ready to suggest we ditch this public space.

Before I can do just that, Presley rips her mouth away with a gasp. โ€œWhat was that for?โ€

โ€œThe last six years without.โ€

Iโ€™m SO excited for you to meet my Bayside Hero. Dane definitely delivers the heat! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐—•๐—Ÿ๐—จ๐—ฅ๐—• โ†“

โ€œHe might be wrong, but Iโ€™m tired of being right.โ€

The extreme focus on my career has led to a lonely existence.
I donโ€™t make time for much beyond the hospital walls.
And the pressure is getting to me.

Those who know me best highly recommend I take the edge off by any means necessary.
As it turns out, the new security guard at Bayside Regional is just what the doctor ordered.

Dane Owens is a disaster waiting to happen.
Maybe thatโ€™s why I canโ€™t look away.
He plays fast and loose with no intention of slowing down.
Especially when it comes to dating.

Weโ€™re polar opposites, which is precisely why this arrangement is temporary.
But thereโ€™s plenty to keep us occupied until our expiration date.

All I need is for Dane to follow the rules that long.
